Death Wobble Empty Death Wobble

Post by MudRaider 11/17/2011, 7:35 am

Since getting on these off-road forums have seen this term used frequently. I had a wobble in tghe MudRaider, but after throwing air-soft pellets in the tires that is gone. I do have a bad idler arm, but not really affected. Is it a combination of balance, worn suspension pieces and only felt at certain speeds. Someone explain please.

its a harmonic vibration that can be caused by worn suspension pieces or shot tires.

it is a problem experienced by solid axle vehicles. trac bars, control arm bushings, steering linkage, bad castor, balljoints, and seperating tires can all cause this.

real death wobble will make the truck undriveable, it will cause shaking so violent that it feels like the tires are hopping up and down. steering ability is lost and braking is affected and sometimes it wont go away until you are able to slow down to a stop.

here is kind of a good video of it from the outside.

Definitely never experienced anything like that. That is some crazy movement.
