Re: jeep stuck in 4wd
1st thing to check is to make sure that T-case has fluid... No leaks or holes.
What year make model do you have?
Also Automatic or Manual and engine & t-case details?

Re: jeep stuck in 4wd
They are not electric..... they have linkage to the transfer case.... some axles have a center link in the axle tubing that is controlled by a vacuum line.
Re: jeep stuck in 4wd
I have a "buddy' that has a dodge p/u that his doesn't engage in the front and said it was something electrical causing it to not engage. Does he not know what he has?

This is correct. they had the vac disco for a while. Im not sure the exact year they stopped. Odds are with the XJ that when u put it in 2wd the transcase went to 2wd. They way they are made inside it pretty much moves a sleeve down the main shaft. In my XJ with disco front axle it will say its in 4wd b/c the axle is still vac connected. The transfer case is really in 2wd though. Once u turn it off and let the vacuum pressure off it would not say 4wd anymore. ( I know the inside b/c I just pulled a few apart recently and learned how it all works.)
