Post by piratex on 1/17/2012, 9:41 pm

Who's all had welded gearing. I dea poped up in another thread and it got me thinkin. Now that its on my mind I kinda want to get this done now.

Has anyone done it themselves?

Anyone know of a good place to have it done if need be. I of course want it done right the first time since if it ain't done right the first time ill have bigger issues

i have a Lincoln locker in the front of the MudRaider. What little I got to do with the thing before the motor went was awesome. True 4WD with the air-locker rear. Go for it. you might want to have another one done, and keep yours stock and in reserve in case Murphy shows up.

welding it right isnt the problem. thats easy to do with any competent welder.

off road, it works awesome. its always there, no leaks to worry about, no springs to worry about....just full time traction.

but, if you plan to do it on a DD. get ready for tires chirping around every corner. and parking lots to become noisy and aggravating sometimes because it can take away some of your turning radius.

but to me thats not the big issue, tire wear is the big issue. it will rapidy increase wear on whatever axle is welded....it can cut tire life easily in half if you have soft or grippy tires.

Well I would just be welding my rear since its the only axle I have. And I rotate them every 3000 miles. They are a 10ply tire
