Well, the head may still be okay. Everything sounds OK when you turn it over with the starter. There might be a hole in the block though. I haven't seen one yet. There is two big holes in the oil pan...

affraid Dude that sucks, sorry to hear it. Mine's bad, no oil pressure. but I can still start it long enough to move it around in the yard instead of having to push it. No luck yet from the other forums.

You ever done it before? highly recommend a camera. Well, actually since this is your beater this will probably be a one or two day swap, wouldn't it? Wires and hoses should stay fresh in your mind on where they go. But if you tear down this weekend and aren't putting the new engine in for a couple weeks, at least label everything. My .02.

$600 is high for a rebuilt motor? It does say rebuilt, not used. I stick with my origin, "this is great deal."
Question

Question

"This is for a Jeep 4.0 FI, motor, rebuilt and ready to go, i got it from a garage that was going out of business, looks good and should be a good find, i have .........."

Read what it says. He got it from a shop going out of business. Who says it is rebuilt then. Plus it SHOULD be a good find. I would not trust it were rebuilt unless the heads were pulled the oil pan was removed.

I'm with Frankie on this one. 4.0s are extremely common and no one said when it was rebuilt or by who. Judging by the multi color paint job it wasn't a professional job.

I spelled his name correctly this time lol!

Smitty has a running 4.0. I'm not sure on the price yet. I'm guessing around $400
I'll keep ya posted.
