My super slow HO/Renix Cherokee build
This is a build that will prob. take me a long time. I have had this 89 cherokee in my garage for almost a year. The jeep cought on fire under the hood after being stolen. We bought it from a friend. The trans was supposed to have been rebuilt. Well, I got the head off and cleaned up a lot of the melted crap from the engine bay. Today I got some more time to mess with it. I removed the alt., starter, water pump and almost all the oil pan bolts. took the trac bar loose and the steering from the pitman arm. I am trying to decide if I want to rebuild the motor with it in its place or pull the block to rebuild and install the HO head.
Just the engine bay with a lot removed.
The nasty inside where the water pump goes.

Re: My super slow HO/Renix Cherokee build
Today I pulled the Crank Pulley, timing chain, Cam and Lifters. I had a video of the Chain, but for some reason it will not play. Guess I'll just replace it. I pulled the motor to this point might as well replace it all. Almost just a bare block sitting there. Should I replace the Freeze Plugs?
Look as the rubber coming out of the Crank Pulley. Guess I need that new too.

yes put in new freeze plugs in it and replace the balancer.
Re: My super slow HO/Renix Cherokee build
Ok so I did a quick hone job to one cylinder to see what was up. There is lip at the top and I was wondering if maybe some was carbon build up. Now, I did not want to pull the block and get it bored but let me know what you think. There is still a lip. Its not hugh but it is there.
man look at the camera phone picture.

i have never took a 4.0 apart so i dont know if that lip should be there. but with a 5.0 ford that would mean a rebore is needed.

Re: My super slow HO/Renix Cherokee build
if it catches your fingernail it is worn. but you can just get bigger rings....or pistons
Re: My super slow HO/Renix Cherokee build
Well this build is over with. I figured I would go a diff route. So, I sold the Jeep. Troy picked it up today for some parts for his friends Jeep.

Re: My super slow HO/Renix Cherokee build
it will still get built...but not as a daily driver...i see it as a forum hardcore build. something to build badass go anywhere crawler with. make it the off~camber 4x4 business card so to speak.

Now that engime compartment has plenty of room to fit a V*. And if they make a kit, SBC and SBF are dime a dozen on CL. The rest of it doesn't show up as much, but they do show up. Interesting as I said.

Re: My super slow HO/Renix Cherokee build
if i do a chevy i would rather do a ls series motor....but this IS a off~camber build so everyone on here has a say in whats done to it. i am starting a build thread now with polls.
