Steel Seal - Head gasket repair in a bottle

Post by MudRaider on 4/9/2012, 11:23 pm

Been having head gasket on the used engine for the Shogun. Blown out two head gaskets. With the second one, someone recommended Steel Seal. When the first gasket failed, rplaced it and the head with a new and rebuilt, respectively. Straight head, ruler flat and all, and a good Fel-pro gasket. Again, FAIL! That is when I was told of Steel Seal. Being skeptical after having tried Bars Stop Leak on radiators and other products, i was hesitent with this stuff. After searching the web for an hour or so, results were pretty favorable on this product. Ordered some, followed directions, and it seems to have fixed the problem. No more bubbling in the radiator, no more white smoke screen from the exhaust. Amazing stuff. Only been a couple days, will be monitoring it closely, but it seems to be holding up well.

I hope it holds up also. Will test it with a couple hour drive tomorrow. Would really like to know more about the science of this stuff.

Still working great. No water loss, power is up.

Here's the bottle it came in. Still amazed.

Big test today, hauled 1100 lbs of scrap to the scrapper. Temp gauge stayed right in the sweet spot.

Seems premature. This is gonna be hanging over me every time I drive it for a while. You know how you jump in the X and don't give it a thought about getting from Point A to Point B? It's going to take a while to not be worrying about that. No Still trying to figure out the "alchemy" of how this stuff worked. confused

Put a couple hundred miles on it so far and not a drop of coolant lost yet! Amazing. Temp gauge has stayed at the spot right where the MudRaider sat, even with about a 15 minute idle time once. Getting more comfortable with it at least. Still gonna keep a couple of gallons of water with me.

Well, been stuck in 5:00 o'clock traffic on 295 and Blanding a couple times and still not using a drop. And no, I'm not a paid spokesperson.

Well, I don't know if it compares to a love of good tools. It's just a fact the Mitsubishi 2.6 is prone to head gasket issues.
