t case skid

Post by Nick@HappyTrails4x4 on 9/16/2011, 12:18 am

well, ive always been meaning to build some sort of transfer case protection on my jeep. and my original plan was to wait till i built my front 3 link crossmember and just run a flat belly pan that was flush with the frame rails. but that job is still a little while away. so i need to build a temporary skid that would atleast protect it from getting destroyed while im wheeling.

sorry for the cell phone pictures

i started with a mixture of 3/16 and 1/4 steel plate, and also some 1/8" 1x1 box tube

i came up with a quick shape idea and started welding.

then i drilled a few holes in the stock crossmember for mounting, and also welded a 3/16 bracket on my rear crossmember for mounting.

here it is all mounted up, i think it should do the trick for now.

looks pretty solid. Eventually I want to replace the factory fuel skid (made of what is surely paper mache) and add more armor by the t-case and oil pan

I saw them at Smitty's. Your description does not do the buggy justice. That thing is a monster. Great job on the skid plate, will definitely beat scraping it across rocks or thumping it on a boulder.
