Re: mmcgortys 87 after fender trim
Does anyone know where I can pick up some new axle shims and fix my rear end for good im tired of it shifting on me. I have tried everything possible. I wish I could find some with machined in studs.

i can help, I know a guy that can hook you up. There is some things we need to know how many degrees and what is the perch or spring width. Once we figure that out he will machine them for your application. I cant remember if they are $50 or $100,but we can find that out also.
I forgot to tell you i have been running them for 2 years and no problems.

What is happening to them? I take it they are getting loose? Are the pins breaking?
Re: mmcgortys 87 after fender trim

For those to break, isn't there something loose to cause them to break? Like the u bolts aren't tightening down enough or something like that? Is that possible?
Re: mmcgortys 87 after fender trim

Are you buying ubolts from your local autoparts store?

Tom, check this out;
What are you thinking?
mmcgorty wrote:Well I picked up some new ones at advances but instead of going with the stock 1/2 ones that I broke. I replaced them with some thicker ones that around 7/16 thick. Went on great and cost under 20. Took it out for a ride and stopped at the gas station to see if everything was good still and my starter died. One this after another.
What are you thinking?

Yeah got the new starter in and new u bolts on, i just need an inexpensive way if possible to fix the shifting issue.

Are you buying ubolts from your local autoparts store? If so they dont hold up very good, Theres a place on Lane ave ( spring and brake ) you can get heavy duty one s they bend there

Re: mmcgortys 87 after fender trim
Yeah i got some cheap ones from discount just to get it together for now. I was trying to figure out a way to do away wth the shims themselves. Has anyone ever done that, my angle isnt steep enough to matter to much i dont think.

Re: mmcgortys 87 after fender trim
So I have been sitting back at work (bored). Thinking of a new way to contain my rear end to make sure it doesnt move on me ever again. I have came up with the idea to either drill through my leaf springs completely and run a U-Bolt over the axle and directly through the springs, Or just weld the U-Bolt to the spring. Anyone think this would be a good idea. Not as a complete fix to the issue but rather a diturent (i think that is how it is spelled)for the time untill i can get some new springs put under.

Re: mmcgortys 87 after fender trim
Probably not a good idea to drill into or weld on the springs. How would a traction bar like Dirty has work?

Re: mmcgortys 87 after fender trim
It may be cheaper than you think if you purchase the steel and have one of the members help design and weld. Just an option though.
