Re: tow rig
prior to 00' tj's had a 3spd auto. mine is factory 3:73's. yes it does seem strage that the cherokee has a 4spd auto but the tj did not. but it is a fact that tj's came with the 32re(rh) tranny. i am guessing at the 4:10's because when i had the stock 30's on here speedo was slow now with 31's its right on same mph as gps now
Re: tow rig
Do u know how to tell what gear ratio is? Lift the rear of jeep n rotate tire, mark tire then count # of revolutions at drive shaft when u spin tire once. That will tell u how much. If 3 3/4 at driveshaft for 1 tire spin then 3.73. If 4 then 4.10 n so on. The TJ is a 3spd with od.

this is true, while i can and have driven my jeep a good distance to go wheeling... it is nice to be able to just toss it on a trailer and not worry about tire wear, or possibly breaking something a few hundred miles from home

Re: tow rig
i like the 3 spd. all other jeeps sites say its alot stronger then other jeep autos. and it has no od....3 gears only.....at 60 mph i am turning 3300 rpm.

Re: tow rig
got me a tow rig. a 2001 ford f150 4x4 supercab. i will post some pics tomorrow. not really pretty but runs great and its the 4x4 offroad version with the tow package and 5.4 v8
Re: tow rig
Keep an eye on the spark plugs. My work truck popped them out a couple times. total PITA to fix. The spark plug holes are straight down, kind of under the manifold. Not one of Ford's better ideas.
Re: tow rig
my buddy just got rid of one of thos had over 200000 miles and still ran great

Re: tow rig
this runs great and has 335000...pulled behind a motorhome for years and dang good maintence done on it. yeah mudraider i have had a few of these 5.4's.....is a PITA to change #4 the rest are ok....but this one just had it all done.
Re: tow rig
Should have like a 7K tow rating. It'll pull your jeep fine. As long as you don't get tall or to crazy with the jeep.
All I know about the ford modular motors is get the aftermarket solid piece design spark plugs. If the plugs have been done before usually there's no issue.

Re: tow rig
Watch the wheels they seem to want to turn while you are driving it. Its a common issue on those.
