got a new dd/tow rig/family cruiser. its a beast for sure..1995 chevrolet suburban 4x4 with a new 350 crate motor with 260hp/310tq. love the way its drives/rides and plenty of room for the family. and has a tow rating of 10k +....fuel mileage is around 15mpg but thats ok.going to get 33's and 18" rims and a little dress up...not using it for wheeling at all. and this came at a great time...also have a 28' diesel cabin cruiser boat....heres the burban...

Those are 6-lug wheels. 10K+ tow rating for a single wheel 5.7 1500 4x4 suburban is a very generous. The tow rating on that truck is more in the 5-6K towing range.

It is a clean looking burb for the year.

The GCWR and GVWR should be located in the door jam sticker. There's no possible way a 1500 suburban is rated to tow a 10K trailer. Also Z71, 4x4 ect does not help the towing capacity. It actually lowers the towing rating. You are still limited by the GCWR.

You really believe a 1/2 ton Chevy suburban is legally able to tow a 10K trailer. lol!

Anyway you look at it you are limited by the GCWR. 4x4 packages usually make the vehicle heavier therefore lowing the amount of weight you can put on a trailer.

I am not saying who is right or wrong here but click this link and check out Dimensions and Capacities tab.
It has the GCWR of a 1995 1500.

I kinda have to side with Rainman on this one Troy. I seem to not be able to find a 10k rating anywhere online. Everyone is saying in the 6500 to 7500 range. Still enough to carry your Kia though. So, it will work well for you.

I just read something that may be causing some of the confusion. The Hitch is prob rated for 10k pounds witch will make most say they can pull 10k lbs but the Truck itself is not rated for 10k.

on gmtruckclub.com several people said 10k and was talking about what truck could legally pull. and noone pissed in my wheaties, i read in person and talked to several places now that confirm the sub is a 10k rated puller...even in 1500 trim as long as it has the z71 pkgt...std 1500 is 6500-7500 lbs towing.....
i did not go to a second hand website that post stuff about 1000's of cars...i went straight to a gm spe site and got the info i need. enough said..........

Oh. That is not a spec site that is a forum site. I thought maybe you had a diff. site that had all the specs on the Suburban. Hey maybe it does it. I guess you can try to load it down and see what happens.

most people that work at the dealership are idiots. lol.

but if it is rated for 10k, its total. like fluids, people, cargo, and then trailer. so it can tow like a 5-6k trailer. remember, about 10-15% of the trailer weight makes up the tongue weight. there is no way that truck can safely haul 1000-1500 pounds hanging off the rear bumper. also when towing its not usually the suspension that is the limiting factor, its the brakes. trust me, not having enough brakes is scary as hell!

In defense of the 10k thing, that is probably what people have proven it can do. What it's rated at, and what people actually get out of it are two diff things. When I had the Cummins, and was big into the forums...the tow rating for the 1 ton duallys was around 13-14k IIRC, but there were guys using them for a living running about of 16k. Remember one fella running 20k worth of machinery on a lowboy out west somewhere(then your talkin HD trans cooler or clutch, and exhaust brakes). Regardless of your preference, those year Chevys are solid trucks, and all I saw on the carsdirect site was GVW. In all likelihood, it'll pull anything you hook to it, so long as you got the right receiver and don't try any big hills. Legal? Pfft, avoid DOT and weigh stations, no one is the wiser Smile

The stock Dodges had just fair brakes. But high quality rotors/drums, and ambulance/severe duty friction straightened mine out.
