Re: 1992 XJ "Project Florida Crawler"
Dumb question maybe, but on the inner part, could you of used a tub from a pick-up truck that has more space. Just wondering, still working on understanding this uni-body stuff.

well on an xj there is a big joint that connects the center section and the outer section of the body together and it runs right down the middle of the inner fender. so that is a huge structural point which makes it kind of difficult to cut the entire thing out and just replace it with something else.
but, anyways....i got the first coat of bedliner thrown on them today and it cleaned everything up.

Looks a lot more finished, at least in a picture. Seeing yours and Dirty's up close changed my mind on exterior bedliner.

Oh, I like it a lot. I had done the roof of the MudRaider with it, then covered it with silver. But that was the roof. no one really sees that. Will be doing it where the black is on mine, it's doing that nasty chalk thing that black paint does.
Re: 1992 XJ "Project Florida Crawler"
bedliner is a good way to hide any "oopsies" that happen offroad..lol

Re: 1992 XJ "Project Florida Crawler"
still waiting to do my tank relocate.
im planning on spending some time on sunday to take a big chunk out of the work. and i was originally just going to use random scrap from around the shop to build the framing for the tank. but decided just to order some new steel...so hopefully that will be here soon.
Deadline is approaching!!

Re: 1992 XJ "Project Florida Crawler"
Finally fixed my modified 4wd linkage today. So no more having to crawl under the jeep to shift in and out of 4 lo.!!!
And decided to test it out at the shop, lol

Re: 1992 XJ "Project Florida Crawler"
got some progress on the jeep today!
first off added some 1/4" steel to the front bumper and cleaned up the edges some.
and installed my new non-crushed in diff cover....i love this thing!
and began my gas tank relocation
removed my tank. and got a better look at the dents. these dents cause me to not be able to put gas in my tank (i filled the tank with compressed air to pop the dents out before i put the tank back in, no pictures though)
the tank is just temporarily sitting in place right now, ive got a delivery of steel coming tomorrow so i can build the framing for it and the mounts, and after that the thank, filler tubes, and shock tower will all be boxed in with sheet metal.
and i still need to build a rear bumper so i can get rid of this dumbass hitch. but it stays for now because that is the only recovery point i have in the rear. but otherwise the clearence i gained is amazing, there is sooo much space under there now

Re: 1992 XJ "Project Florida Crawler"
Progress on the cradle/cover this morning
The back will have removable covers so I can still unbolt my shocks. And the top portion will be removable and sealed.
