Bumpers all done on the front, had it painted and ready for Flagler. Washed up and ready for it's DD duties. Mudraider is getting turned around tomorrow night and motor removal starts tomorrow.

Re: Shogun build - An 88 Mitsubishi Montero build
dang, never paid attention to the differences.
Quite the difference. 3" BL 2" suspension lift, 35's vs 32's Man I've stole a lot of parts off the MudRaider for the Shogun.

Surfing the web found info on the Weber carb. Definitely need to install a fuel pressure regulator, lower the floats on the carburetor, and change the location of the float bowl vent with the addition of JB Weld and some copper tubing. Would solve the hill climbing/whooptie/ sputtering I've been having.
Re: Shogun build - An 88 Mitsubishi Montero build
Made a flag holder to go in the trailer hitch today, Gonna fly my old Army unit's flag, 82nd Airborne Division. Will post up pics tomorrow.
Re: Shogun build - An 88 Mitsubishi Montero build
Found some weird hitch thing, cut it up to hold some 1" re-bar, drilled a couple holes and burned a few rods and now I can carry a flag if I want to. gonna run my old unit flag and see how many other paratroopers there are out there!
Will run the Colors on appropriate days.

Re: Shogun build - An 88 Mitsubishi Montero build
Went to Smitty's today and got a new muffler. 300,000 miles it finally blew out. Since I was off today, got the 2" body lift in finally, along with front shocks. Still looking for a fuel pressure regulator, stock fuel pump puts out too much for the Weber. Tomorrow will do some 2" shackles and a front torsion twist. And rear shocks.
Re: Shogun build - An 88 Mitsubishi Montero build
Well, doing the 2" body lift, I had loosened the fuel hoses to let them stretch to there new spot, but I guess being 25+ years old, they declined to move and ripped instead. Headed to the MJC/Wells Bros meet, stopped and was putting fuel in. Fuel spilling all over. The lower hose had a tear in it. Was only able to get a few gallons in it. Couldn't play at Wells Bros. got home and went to O'reilley's in Middleburg since Advance and Discount didn't carry 2" fuel hose. $23 a foot. I needed 18" of it and they only sold it by the foot. $50 effin dollars. Man that hurt shelling that out. Oh well, 300,000 miles on it and I've been messing with piddly crap since I got it running again anyway, what's another $50.
Re: Shogun build - An 88 Mitsubishi Montero build
It's been 3 days, I put a Holley fuel pressure regulator on it. Whoohoo! All kinds of low end power, and the popping has stopped. Dammit, family stuff to do Saturday afternoon on this weekend. Would love to have been able to go to Hardrock this weekend.
Re: Shogun build - An 88 Mitsubishi Montero build
Still dealing with carb issues. Any type of steep angle results in black smoke and wanting to load up. Have a carb rebuild kit coming so I can take the carb apart and work on the float and put in a float bowl vent. Kicking myself hard for selling the MudRaider's carb. Looking for a bellhousing to use with the MudRaider's new engine, not being able to find one. So to kill time working on a complete, finished appearing back bumper. Got all the pieces cut today, will get it assembled Wednesday. Will bother with pics then.

Re: Shogun build - An 88 Mitsubishi Montero build
Worked on the back bumper this weekend, pretty much done. Two more plates for the front of the bumper, and a little more detailing, then some bed-lining on it and it will be done.
Re: Shogun build - An 88 Mitsubishi Montero build
Picked up a little carnage from the Poker Run, had a head gasket blow out . I have water going thru cylinder #2, Nothing in the oil, so I'm taking the head off and putting a different one on. Also going to throw in the MudRaider's radiator and see if that helps with the high temps it has when cruising slow. Hopefully 300,000 miles has it's original radiator a little clogged.
Re: Shogun build - An 88 Mitsubishi Montero build
Didn't get it done, doctor's appt in the middle of the day. Definitely warped that head, the other one is supposed rebuilt, and straight as an arrow. Hopefully be back up tomorrow. But it is a 16 hour day tomorrow. We'll see.

That back bumper looks good but the front is way better.

Thanks. Especially in person. Gonna have to run another bead to fill the gap.89WhiteXJ wrote:That back bumper looks good but the front is way better.
Re: Shogun build - An 88 Mitsubishi Montero build
Found this pic from when I first bought it while it was still sporting the "Stately and Hutch" style modified hood and stock bumpers and tires. Came a long way since then.
Re: Shogun build - An 88 Mitsubishi Montero build
Have to waterproof the ignition with some silicone and di-electric grease on the cap and wires. Not going to risk the same crap that happened to the MudRaider when I submarined it in the 40" of muck.
Re: Shogun build - An 88 Mitsubishi Montero build
Well, after going to Osceola National Forest last month, and running so well thru the 3' of water all through there. The Shogun went thru adolescense. After today, and heading to the trails, but only getting into the first obstacle when the tire got cut. It really wants to go wheeling very badly. Some of you guys have been there before. Poor thing. Maybe next weekend it can get it's cherry broken.
