99 XJ - Hillbilly Death Machine
So i bought my first jeep recently and have a list of upgrades longer than my leg at this point..
Specs:
4.0 I6 MPI HO Engine - AW4 Tranny - NP242 Transfer Case - D30 Front & Chrysler 8.25 Rear Axles (3.55 gears as far as i know)
I will be starting with the typical Lift, Tires and a handful of performance mods.
Ordered a 4.5" RC lift which will be going on this weekend (Thanks to Troy)
K&N Intake (Will be installed Friday)
Complete overhaul for the sound system
And all the items i need for a complete tuneup and fluid flush.
Heading to Troys this weekend to install the lift. I will be sure to take the camera and get some pics.
If anyone has a set of 33s they want to sell, get a hold of me please
For now, here is a couple in its completely stock condition.

I said the same thing to the guy i bought it from.. Im going to remove it when i cut the fenders and use the wiring for a new set of Hella 500s.

Im looking for a set of 33s, was hoping i could use these tires as a bit of trade for them.. tires + cash might get me sitting on 33s quicker since ive spent so much money lately. The tires are at like 95% tread.

I waxed it the day after i bought it.. its had enough time being a pretty Jeep, its time to transform this thing into a monster.

Re: 99 XJ - Hillbilly Death Machine
Looking forward to the updated pictures with the lift kit installed. When are you getting the tires?
Re: 99 XJ - Hillbilly Death Machine
Well, today was eventful and productive to say the least.. Had to wake up entirely too early to go play in the woods with some of you, managed to get hung up on a tree within 5 minutes of being there, then moved on to get my lift installed.. And at this moment im contemplating putting the jeep on the slab out back and installing the transfer case drop..
Ok ill shut up and insert some pics..
Off to Troys i go!
Troy "supervising"
Chris lived under my jeep for a solid 8 hours, and i cannot thank him enough. He has more patience than i do..
Fronts done! That just looks fucked up, kinda like something that you would see driving around in palatka..
Troy welding my tracbar together
And finished... Well sorta. Managed to break ALL 4 rear shock mount bolts, so we have to sort out a solution for that tomorrow hopefully. And im going to have to install shims or my transfer case drop because i have a slight bind in the rear driveshaft and its clunking around.
Random other photos from the day can be found at https://s260.photobucket.com/albums/ii23/defender6/

You may end up needing an sye for the transfer case.

Re: 99 XJ - Hillbilly Death Machine
Also they sell these drop things for the rear to fix your problem with the shocks. You weld them in and it gives you like an inch or two more down travel. Check detoursusa.com. you can normally bolt them in but in your case u weld them in and it drops and relocates your mount position.

SYE mean Slip Yoke Eliminator ... it replaces the stock slip yoke style connection of the driveshaft to the transfer case with a flange style connection. this keeps your driveshaft from slipping out of the transfercase, and also allows you to run a double-cardon driveshaft so you can run the driveshaft at steeper angles without binding and vibrations.

Re: 99 XJ - Hillbilly Death Machine
jeep looks good. as for the broken shock bolts you can either weld on the bracket like frankie said, or you can use a punch and sledgehammer and knockout all of the nutserts, and just replace them with regular bolts/nuts/ and lock washers

Re: 99 XJ - Hillbilly Death Machine
That sounds like an easy solution to an aggravating problem. Plus you get to use a BFH!Nick@HappyTrails4x4 wrote:jeep looks good. as for the broken shock bolts you can either weld on the bracket like frankie said, or you can use a punch and sledgehammer and knockout all of the nutserts, and just replace them with regular bolts/nuts/ and lock washers
Re: 99 XJ - Hillbilly Death Machine
Listening to Chris and Troy talking about solutions to the shock bolts last night they mentioned welding in brackets that would change the pitch of the shocks, and allow for more travel. If thats still an option thats what i would rather do. More travel makes me happy.
